Bio
Dr. Afshin Malaki received his medical degree from University of Copenhagen in Denmark, receiving several awards for outstanding achievement. He was ranked in the top 1% and top 5% by the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exams) for Step 2 and Step 1 exams.
Dr. Malaki completed a postgraduate research fellowship in Surgery at Bispebjerg Hospital of University of Copenhagen before spending two years in General Practice in Norway. Dr. Malaki then completed two years of General Surgery Residency at North Shore University Hospital and Easton Hospital, followed by an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, the busiest labor and delivery center in New York State. He was a Galloway Fellow in Gynecology Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Over a period of seven years at the McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa, Dr. Malaki specialized in low-risk and high-risk obstetrical care, and other OBGYN services including minimally invasive approaches to Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Urinary Incontinence, Gynecological Cancers and Chronic Pelvic Pain. He also completed the Executive MBA Program at the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business to provide his patients with superior service .
In June of 2015, Dr. Malaki joined the Banner Surprise Health Center in Surprise, AZ where he continued his work in obstetrics and gynecology.
In 2017, Dr. Malaki fulfilled his long-standing dream of providing care to Native American patients at an Indian Health Services facility in Tuba City, AZ. There he provided outpatient and inpatient services, including gynecologic surgery and high-risk maternity care.
After completing his work with the Navajo Nation, Dr. Malaki established Scottsdale Personal OBGYN, a solo private practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Scottsdale, AZ.
Dr. Malaki lives in Phoenix with his wife, Dr. Lis Annette Malaki, who is fellowship trained in integrative medicine from University of Arizona and their two children.
